A safe holds important documents and valuables in an office or household. It’s vital that you keep the key to your safe in a space you’ll remember and is not easy for somebody to find in case of a burglary. Manufacturers develop safes to resist tampering in case of a break-in. Therefore, if the safe’s key is stolen or if you misplaced it, opening the safe will require either an expensive and difficult procedure or a recall in memory.

  1. Calm down and don’t panic. Sit in a calm place and attempt to recall where you placed the safe’s key. You might’ve hidden the key so well, you simply forgot where it is located.
  2. Ask friends, co-workers, or family members if they’ve seen the key. It is possible that somebody located the key and kept it for you.
  3. Get in touch with the safe’s manufacturer. The manufacturer is going to mail you a duplicate key in order to replace your lost key. You’ll have to provide the serial number and model of the safe when you get in touch with the manufacturer. Usually, manufacturers print the serial number and model of the safe close to the door hinge. Some manufacturers will require a notarized letter in order to demonstrate safe ownership.
  4. Locate a locksmith. Look up online to find an insured and bonded locksmith who has expertise in opening safes. Before you hire a locksmith, check with the BBB about the company’s reputation. A few manufacturers have a list of locksmiths in the area who are authorized to open safes that are manufactured by them.
